About Me

A lifelong drummer who mixes solid technique with the joy of making music.

Like a lot of kids, I started by pounding on pots and pans around the house. Those first noisy experiments turned into a lifelong love for drumming. Forty years later, I’m still chasing that feeling—and for the past decade, I’ve been helping students discover it too.

I studied at Del Mar College and Texas A&M Corpus Christi under Dr. Norman Weinberg, starting at age 13. Later, I spent time at Southwest Texas State University with Genaro Gonzalez. Those years gave me a foundation in technique, theory, and musical language that I now pass on to my students.

Outside of the classroom, I’ve played in several bands across Texas and Georgia, recorded three albums with Melting Moses and two with Odifirous Funk, and worked as a studio drummer tracking for other artists in Corpus Christi. One highlight was opening for Jason Bonham—a reminder of how drumming connects us across generations.

My Teaching Approach

I believe learning drums should be both structured and fun. Beginners start with fundamentals: grip, timing, and reading music. From there, we build confidence through simple songs and rhythmic games that make practice feel less like work. Advanced students dive into topics like soloing, odd time signatures, polyrhythms, and heel-toe bass drum technique.

When frustration sets in—and it always does—we adjust. Sometimes that means stepping back to play an echo game with a younger student. Sometimes it means breaking down a complex rhythm one note at a time for an advanced player. I’ve learned that small wins add up, and every “light bulb” moment is worth celebrating.

Why I Teach

My proudest moments aren’t about my own gigs. They’re about my students—like the day one of them landed a spot in the school jazz band after auditioning. Or the moment a frustrated beginner suddenly understood a rhythm and lit up with excitement.

Drumming has been the rhythm of my life. Teaching lets me share that feeling with others.

“In the rhythm of life, drumming is what gives it feeling.”
